Very Delicious Penang Restaurant

Date:  July 25, 2015

Today is National Youth Day.

I took a day off to spent time with the kids.  So strange, they always busy during the weekend because of the enrichment classes.

Only time to go cycling is on this sort of holidays.  Kind of nice to have such holiday.  :)

We cycled to West Coast Park today.  The round trip journey takes about 17.24KM.

During lunch hour, we quickly stop at this restaurant.

Just 10 minutes before 12 noon.  We reached at this restaurant at Clementi West St. 2.

IMG 7149

Island Penang Kitchen.

They used to be at China Town.

And only recently they moved to Clementi.

Sometimes I do my morning walk, I walked passed this restaurant.

IMG 7115

And we ordered three of this Penang’s famous food!

IMG 7116

The Penang Fried Kway Teow is very nice.  The sweet sauce that they used to fried the Kway Teow is the authentic Penang one.  Very nice, and taste very good.  I like it.

IMG 7097

The Penang laksa is very nice.

Quoted my wife saying: “This is the best Penang Laksa I have eaten for the last 10 years…”.  Very authentic.

IMG 7098

Especially with the prawn paste.

IMG 7096

And I ordered myself the Special Prawn Mee.

IMG 7107

Just look at it.  It is one of the only expensive dish they have.  $15 per bowl.  The rest of the food are $5 to $7.

Why this one so expensive?

IMG 7108

Because got scallop.

Few big prawns.  A note about the prawns, very big and fresh.  That is why the prawn soup base is nice.

IMG 7109

The Tu-Kar (Pork Leg Meat) looks damn shiok.

IMG 7110

Tu-Pee.  Pig Skin.  Very tender and nice.

IMG 7111

Pork Lard.  Overall, nice.  I like the Prawn Mee soup.

IMG 7112

Golden Fried Rice.

IMG 7104 1

At first I ordered the fried rice for Kay.  But he does not like it.  So, we let him taste the Char Kway Teow.  And he loves it!  This is the first time Mr. Kay eat fried kway teow and say it is very nice.

IMG 7105

So, this Penang famous food place is really live up to the “famous” word.  Nice!

IMG 7103

Not expensive.

Every thing is like $5-$6.  Only my Special Prawn Noodle is costly.

I think I will come here and eat quite often.  :)

A Good Malay Feast: Kedai Makan Rahmat

Date:  Mar 29, 2015

Yesterday, we went into Malaysia to visit my father’s grave.  My dad passed away 26 years ago on Mar 23.  It is before Qing-Ming, therefore, we always came in to pay respect during this time.

IMG 0099

The grave is around Kong Kong, which is close by Pasir Gudang,  So, we decided to search on Google places to eat after paying respect.

And we found this place.  Apparently a famous Malay restaurant by the seaside.

IMG 0144

Wow!  The restaurant only sell afternoon meals.  And close on Friday.

IMG 0102

The restaurant is just like those you find in Batam or Bintan.  But this restaurant sell Malay food.

IMG 0143

The restaurant is full of people.  People who is hungry just like us.

IMG 0106

The restaurant is just beside a fishing village.  This is where they supply all their sea food I suppose.

IMG 0104

Let’s check out what food they serve here...

This is ikan Siakap.

This fish is on EVERY SINGLE table.

IMG 0118

They slow fry the fish into very crispy.

IMG 0117

Inside and under the crispy skin is very delicious meaty fish.

IMG 0128

Every table also have this fry prawns.  Very nice and fresh prawns.

IMG 0119

The prawns go very well with this sauce.  Some kind of soya sauce with a bit of Onions, and lime, and chilli in it.

IMG 0109

The fish taste great with this home made sambal.

IMG 0111

This Tempeh is REALLY GOOD.  It sort of taste like banana, a bit sweet a nice.  Especially mix with the samba chilli.  This is actually fermented soybeans.

IMG 0121

The beef rendang is very tasty too.

IMG 0122

The chilli ayam (chicken) sauce is nice.

IMG 0123

Fried kampung chicken.

IMG 0120

We never meant to be here, but here we are, and it is the only restaurant around where we are, deep inside a Malay fishing kampung.  So, let’s enjoy ourselves.

IMG 0130

OK.  The food was delicious.  Even the banana.

IMG 0132

There is even TV show recommend this place.

IMG 0133

This restaurant is opened by important people in Johor.

IMG 0138

It is located just slightly below Tanjong Putri Golf Resort.  Now we ate so full and did not have a chance to eat Famous Mee Soto.  hahaha

IMG 0131

This is the address and their name card.

IMG 0137

Map behind their name card.

IMG 0136

And here comes the bill.  Wow.  79 Ringgit.  About SGD$30 for a nice full table of food.  :)  Good value and delicious.

Children Eat Free At This Restaurant

Date:  Nov 4, 2012

Yesterday was an interesting day.  First we found this huge mall at the Buona Vista there.  We will not seen this mall if there wasn't a rare traffic jam at ECP.  So, knowing that the jam is ahead, we turned out to Buona Vista, and there we saw this mall.  Since when there is this huge mall here?

Then, we found this restaurant called Morganfield, a Western food cuisine.  And the kids can eat here for FREE during weekend.  So, we said, we must try it out.

Ok, I think Jay Jay is slightly over 120cm, so, we have to sneak him in.  So, we got two adults and two kids, then it is just nice that we redeem two FREE kids meal.  There are about 5-6 kids items available, so we chosen the Hotdog and Fish Fingers.  There are also burgers, pizza, and so on for the kids.

Their smoked ribs seems to be a favorite.  Almost every table has one plate.  So, we will order that later.

While waiting for food, Jay Jay was winning our favorite Spot-It card game.  And he now can win his grandmother... Haha he felt damn happy about it.

Kay Kay's free hotdog bun with fries is here!  Wow... Although is free, I think the serving the full size meal to the kids.  It's too much for Kay Kay.  Btw, the sausage is very nice.

The fish fingers is huge too for Jay Jay.  It also comes with a bowl of coleslaw.  So far so good.

Since I am on diet, so, I will need veggies.  This is my Ceasars salad.

And my protein and carbo is next.  A nice peri peri chicken.  And too bad, I cannot eat the chicken skins.  Haha.  I also cannot take too much fries too.  Haha but the chicken is nice too.  And again, big portions.

This is their famous half a rack ribs.  The potato mash is decent, and the meat, is really good.  Very soft and tasty.  I ate just a small piece, and my wife will finish it all later.

The kids are enjoying their big servings of FREE food.

Ok! I am on diet, no alcohol.  So, to help her swallow the ribs, I ordered the beer for her, and it comes with a chip so that you can rebate a half pint free during happy hour.  What? Happy hour during the lunch time? That's good bargain!

The scenery is nice and the kids are happy with their FREE food.  Hahaha

Indeed, this is a very good marketing strategic.  Normaly, when you get FREE food, it does come in a small plate or small bowl, this place, they give you huge plate.  Haha I think it worth it.  And because, you know you are paying lesser, phychology 101, you order more as it is still within budget.  Hahaha I recommend try this place if you have kids and you do not want to pay more.

The Star is also copy the idea from Bangkok, where they lots of such similar eatery place with few retails hops and it is open air.  Cool concept too.
