Thailand #1 - Pornanong Phatlum

Date: Nov 1, 2013

Yesterday, Thomas has arranged another golf game for me in Bangkok. This time I will be playing at Panya Indra. (Thomas is my Golf Event coordinator / tour guide in Bangkok. To search for his card, google search "miniliew Bangkok Thomas".)

We have two flights. This is the not so competitive flight.

Just a note: Caddie Pla (my caddie) is a university graduate, and study Political Science. She is strong Thanksin supporter. Luckily I just happen to wear red shirt!!!!! Hahaha

During the end of the last few holes, the caddies all look at this girl. So I ask who is she?

They said she is "Wan".

Wan who?

Pornanong Phatlum, currently Thailand No.1 female golf player.

At the end of the game, I bump into her at the entrance. My caddie says "Khun Ken, go go picture with her.."

Caddie also clever run up to her politely ask if I can take a photo with Thailand #1 LPGA player.

So we took the pictures, many shots. She's cute.

My Friend Razak also got a good photo with her.

Then I start to google her. Took me a whole to find her name and match her face to the name.

Wah... Wiki says she is only 23 years old. Well done Thailand! For producing such good player.

And I think she is working with LoudMouth brand. Can tell immediately from her skirts. Those are the signature colors, very loud.

I also wear LoudMouth golf shirts. I have yellow, green, purple, red, beige, white and blue in my collection now.

She got a facebook page. You can see her photo from there.

Here is a nice golf pose.

She is indeed very friendly and allow us to take photo with her. Cool. Next time I will watch LPGA golf.

Do you know that if you want to learn golf, learn from LPGA is better. Hahaha

Good Food in Bangkok

Date: Oct 31, 2013

I stayed beside the river. In this Royal Orchid Hotel.

There is usually a small pier just behind the hotel where you can hop on to reach the other side of the river.

It cost about 3.50 Baht to hop on to this boat that run across the river. Cheap cheap!

This is the opposite side.

There is this local market street. Just beside that building.

Simply walk inside until the first alley that you can turn right.

Once you turn right, a few steps later, this local restaurant will be in sight.

It is the only restaurant within sight. It looks like proper food. It served Ishan (Northern Thai) food.

This is Kor Moo Yang. The BBQ grill pork neck meat.

The small little chilli dip beside it is a killer.

So we order the 2nd plate which is a bit more fatty meat.

The chicken is very crispy and the meat are tender inside. We also order 2 plates. We got three person nia.

This is home made beverages. Green wheat, ribena, lemon grass. We ordered 5 bottles of such drinks.

This is the basil pork dish.

Have you try Tom Yum Pork Rib soup? Taste very good! I like.

We also have a plate of seafood salad and mango salad.

This is our second plate fried chicken.

The sotong here is soft. Very nice.

Three people, 5 bottles drinks, 8 dishes of fantastic Ishan food, a plate of rice and a packet of glutinous rice.

Guess how much?

499 Baht nia!

Later that night, near Ekamai Heatlh Land massage, we ate here. Seems like a very famous seafood restaurant for Japanese. In our seating section out of 6 tables served are all Japanese.

Some how this is a very chewy oysters. Why chewy I don't know. But it is fresh and good!

And you eat the oysters with this. Put every thing on it and scope and eat!

Yum Sam Kung, mixes three crispy stuff in a salad.

The fish cakes.

This is what the chewy fresh oysters looks like after you apply everything on it. Taste really good!

One big grill fish.

Grill chickens. But a bit tough meat. Not soft.

Huge prawns.

Some dips with veggies, Kway Tew soup, salads and a tender beef steak. 4 people, and cost 4500 Baht like that. Wow! Expensive meal for a 4 person.

But food really nice.

Don't ask me how to go... I only know we took subway, change to BTS to Tong Lo. And take a cab short distance ride and reach here. I follow nia.

I know it is also very near to Ekamai health land massage. Where you cross the road and take a cab, very short distance you teach the famous massage place.

Bangkok Trip Itinerary & Price

Date:  July 2, 2013

On Jun 21, the haze condition in Singapore were so bad.  The PSI went up to 400+.  So, that Friday evening, together with 2 other family of Jay's friends, we made a quick booking to fly to Bangkok on Sunday (Jun 23).

So, I quickly talk to my tour guide friend who used to book my golf flight in Bangkok.  Mr. Thomas Kum.

This is Thomas.  He is a Singaporean.  He has moved to Bangkok together with his wife for the last 10 years.  And they run a small tour agency, specialise in booking golf course, accommodations and transportation for golfers.  when I am in Bangkok, and I need to book golf flights, I will engage him to do it for me.

I called up Thomas, and asked him if he can do tours for Children.  And he says YES.  So, I quickly asked him to come up with an itinerary so that I can asked the other two families.

This is the QR code of his name card.

His service is very simple.  Booking the car for a whole day is SGD$200/day.  Once you book it, you can pay him in Thai Baht or Singapore Dollars.  You can wired the money to his bank account (Standard Chartered) in Singapore.

I like to book a van when travel, because it is convenient.  Can put things after shopping in the car, can rest in the car, etc.

My wife is in US, so, I decided to go with Jay and Kay.  All boys trip to Bangkok.

The itinerary is as followed.

Day 1.  Pick up from Airport.  Check in Hotel.  Visit Four Face Buddha.  Visit Ocean World.

Day 2.  Safari World.  Short break at Shopping Centre.  Dinner at Bussaracum.

Day 3.  Visit Holy Park.  Visit Crocodile Farm.  Short break at Shopping Centre.  River Cruise.

Day 4.  Visit Dream World.  Visit Madam Tussauds.  Dinner at Hotel (for me, babysit kids).

Day 5.  Huge Shopping centre at Bagna.  Go to Airport.

This is one of the two van we took.  Each van can sit 9 people exclude driver.

We stay at Vie Hotel.  Very comfortable.  Of course, Thomas says, he got some other value for money hotel too.  Due to timing, we book this hotel on our own.  My room is about US$160 per night.  A big suite.

IMG 3425

This is the tickets pricing for most of the theme parks and zoo.  Madam Tusauds and Ocean World is about 1600 Baht per pax.  Kids is about 1300 Baht.

Overall, we used 2 days to plan, and we have 5 full days of fun.

Next time, when I need to organise a tour to Bangkok, I will call Thomas to book every thing for me.  This time, because we book the hotel at the heart of the shopping district.  So, the traffic jam can be terrible, and we will lose out a few hours because of this.  Next trip, I will do further from Bangkok.
