Caterpillar - Final Chapter

I hope you still remember this fellow?  The bright green caterpillar that I found in the balcony?

The one that grows very big by eating lots of my leaves...

The one that turn brown and trying to escape from the captive...

The one that dig a whole in the soil and buried herself there...

The one that later we found out it is a MOTH, instead of a butterfly...

The one later turned into very very brown and hard shell...

And today, it hatched.  After 14 days.  OK la, not as ugly as the one shown in the photo above.

Let's open and see if it is dead or not...

AHHHHH,,..... (1 people scream)

AHHH........AH........... (Few people screaming) AH.... AR..... AH....

It (she) moves.  Cannot fly yet, but not dead, and it (she) moves.

 

Amazing Caterpillar

Both of my boys love butterflies.  This is a coloring Jay did.

We had our amazing experience of butterfly when we were at Cameron Highlands this year!

We are talking aobut lots of butterflies... If you recall, I took a video of these butterflies and how they were unwrapped from the paper bags.  Very different kind of experience.

Jay learned about butterfly life cycle in Cameron Highlands.  But I don't think he understands it back then.  Until...

Until one fine day, when my wife doing her gardening at the balcony... she found this!  What a big fat huge caterpiller!

I took a very good photo of it from my dining table...

So, we decided to keep it as a pet!  We put lots of Jasmine leafs in the bottle.  And the next day, we found lots of poo-poo.  This caterpiller is so hungry, and she eats up all the leaf and poo-poo a lot.

Day by day, we watch it grow.

Day by day it grew bigger and bigger...

And almost every day, we took photos of it... and she becomes longer and longer...

Holly cow!  The followings photos are taken on Oct 28, which is using my new iPhone 4S.  Really huge difference on the camera lenses.  :)

She started to change color.  She is moving aggressively trying to find something.. not sure what.... we are guessing that she suppsoe to become a PuPa.  Accordig to the life cycle chart.

The bright green color and the bright yellow color started to wear off...

And the next day, it becomes chocholate colors...

The boys are concerns about it...

Mommy, look!  She tries to escape!

Mommy, she is running away!

So, we put her back to her Jasmine plant there.. and guess what, she go and dig her "grave"... and within seconds, she dig herself into the soil, and cover herself with soil.  ? ? ?

Wow.  There are some smaller pupa too.

So, up to this point... no one has look up the Internet to try to find out what kind of butterfly is this.

I found 22 matches the description (i.e. slashes) of the caterpiller... all of them are MOTH!!!!

So, what shall we do?

Decisions has not been made.  At the moment, she is still underneath this soil...

What a damn hard decisions.... I really don't want a MOTH as a pet!
