Peranakan Museum

Beside the Central Fire Station, not far away, there is Peranakan Museum.  This is a place where you learn about the Peranakan in South East Asia.  Where they come from, their culture, their cloths, their kitchens, etc etc.

There is a cool sculpture just outside the museum.  Touch her hand.

Oh... a cat.

And Kay Kay loves Mel Mel (cat).

I think we should buy a cat statue and put at home.

Oh ya.  The Museum is $6 per Pax.  Children below 6 are free.  And if you have Passion Card, very powerful.  half price.  :)

Oh... I didn't know that Dick Lee is a Peranakan.

Wait now.. Isn't this Uncle Rodney???

Yes.  Confirmed.  It is him.  I had Uncle Rodney as my boss for some time during my Pacific Internet days.  :)

OK.  I have heard of this ceremony before.  Oh... In my brother in law's marrige.  So, my in-law will bring the pork leg to the to-be-bridges house, and then, they will return the leg, something like that.  Wait a minute, that is peranakan... oh... I almost forgot, my wife is 1/4 or peranakan.  I think.

So, we followed the peranakan way.

Wow.  The Hennessy vintage must be very old.

Ok.  Most of the Museum have this.  Emboss the things they want you to find.

OK.  The peranakan museum has a lot of info regarding Baba and Nyonya.  To the kids at this age, they still cannot appreciate it yet.  But wait until they found a Nyonya in future, then, they will need to come back and study.  :)

SAM - Singapore Art Museum

Date: July 24, 2011

Today we decided to go Singapore Art Museum.

And we decided to wear the angry birds outfit.

Finding car park is a challenge, but the closest we could park would be NTUC or Rendevous Hotel.  But first, feed the kids first before you go in.

This restaurant is in Singapore Art Museum.  And wow, voted as best restaurant.

The wine selections are not bad at all...

But the food so so only.  Not sure how it is voted as the best in Singapore.

The best food is the dessert, which is a pineapple gelato.  Really refreshing!  After this, let's go in!

The first exibit is done by a Japanese artist, and he bought so many of Tomika train tracks and build it in a room.

Wow.  Amazing, I meant the money spent.

Not cheap!

As you can play the train tracks there, it attracts a lot of kids.  Kay have fun there.

Then, we spent almost an hour at the drum and music session.

We all have fun, follow the conductors and we make good music.

Then, there are a few more exibits we need to cover.  Like this one, paper arts.  Jay Jay making paper banana.

Visit to Asian Civilizations Museum

We went to the Asian Civilization Museum today.

It's hard to find where to park.  So, we park at the Parliament House car park and walk 5 minutes to the ACM.  OK.  Its going to be challenging to explain Terracotta Warriors to Jay Jay, not to mention Kay Kay.  But let's do it anyway.  Thanks uncle James and auntie Jasmine for the museum pass.

I told you so, they are so advanced ... the Qing people already know how to use laptop back then...

This is the time you can "smoke" your kid, as you don't wish to mentioned about coffin, death, etc etc.  So simply made up some story that is as close as the real thing will do... Kay Kay, you know they make all these and then they keep it safe underground...

Got to love these small small stand exhibition light.  It looks cute and does the purpose.

Oh ya... one of the fun things you do with your toddler kid is to bring them to do the stamping of the exhibits.  In our case, we have to go to the reception to pick up one of these stamping kit, and then walk the whole museum to hunt for the chops.  And we also queue up for 20 minutes to go into the Terracotta exhibits area to get 4 chops there.

Oh ya... ACM got a iPhone App to download, and you can walk in the museum and use it to explain to you the exhibits.  But I could not get it download, as inside the Museum, the 3G signal is weak, and the Wirelesss@SG is sucks big time!!! hahaha But I do see a lot of iPhone users are having fun with it... it seems like they came to this museum to enjoy using that App.  Interesting...
