Beijing Day#3 - Sea Food Market

Date: April 21, 2011

OK, hungry go where?  My brother in law's wife actually recommended us to eat here.

IMG_5595.JPG

So, basically, it is a seafoods market at the basement.  There are a lot of seafoods there.

IMG_5596.JPG

Oh my goodness!  I like!!!!!

IMG_5597.JPG

Look at these shell prawns... so fat and looks tasty.

IMG_5598.JPG

There are almost 20 shops here selling almost the same thing.  Once you bought it, then, you bring it up to the restaurant up stairs to cook it.  Of course, there is a cooking fees.

IMG_5599.JPG

Even inside the restaurant, they sell seafood.

IMG_5601.JPG

This is the price for cooking, regardless of where you get the seafood from.

IMG_5600.JPG

More prices.  And they count by quantity or weight.

IMG_5603.jpg

Interesting... restaurant in China usually don't wash their own dishes.  They buy from a company that wash all these plates and wrap them up after the steam wash.  It is RMB 1 for each set.

IMG_5604.JPG

Steam prawns is very tasty!

IMG_5605.jpg

The bamboo clams is also very nice.  It is the only hot spicy food.

IMG_5606.jpg

The ginger onion crabs.  Very juicy and tasty too.

IMG_5607.jpg

The fan shells.

IMG_5608.jpg

The abalone rice.

Wow... Got to give two thumbs up for these fresh seafood.

My only worry is the prawns came from where?  The crab came from where?  are they radiated?

Beijing Day#2 - Dinner - 牛街

Date:  April 20, 2011

Some of my customer are Muslims from Malaysia.  And I was so headache trying to fine a good place for them to eat.  And then, my China friends suggested me to go to this 牛街.

IMG_5591.JPG

This is a street where all the Chinese Muslims (回族,清真教) setup their restaurant, supermarket, etc etc.

IMG_5589.JPG

They even have a place selling halal tea.  Here in 牛街 (Niu Jie Street), you can see Arabics scripts in the shop front.

IMG_5590.JPG

Look at this, they even have huge super market for Muslim.  And they have lots of nice kueh kueh inside there too.  A very big food court that sell only halal food.

IMG_5588.JPG

We end up eating here.  The Tu Lu Fan restaurant.  There are also a couple of Muslim restaurant on this street.

IMG_5592.jpg

If I can avoid lamb, I will.  But this BBQ lamb is damn nice!  There is no lamb smell!

IMG_5593.jpg

Look, it is that hollow crispy buns again.  And this time, you wrap with the ginger lamb slice.  This lamb slice, and I don't know how they do it, it taste exactly like stir fried beef slice.  And there is absolutely no lamb smell.

IMG_5594.jpg

And then, we eat this fresh tomato fish.  Very nice and well done.

We had fun.  It is the first time I knew that there is a place for Muslim friends to go to.

Beijing Day #2 Lunch - 北京大董烤鸭店

Date: April 20, 2011

My friends from CinaGoods.Com wanted to treat me lunch.  So, they wanted to go 全聚德.  Then, I asked the taxi driver, to see what is his opinion.  Taxi driver commented that 全聚德 is very expensive and quality drop and not so nice anymore.  So, we asked taxi driver to drive us to the one that he thinks is best in Beijing.

IMG_5558.JPG

so, we came to this 北京大董烤鸭店.  Looks very decent from both inside and outside.  And their specialty is roasted duck and roasted sea cucumber.

The menu is also very nice.  So, can't help it, I started to order the food...

IMG_5559.JPG

鹅肝 which I thought is like Foie gras (Goose Liver).  I was wrong.  May be it was the french music they played in the restaurant confused me.  HaHaHa... Its a bit dry, but not too bad.

IMG_5560.JPG

This is the small appetizer.  Chinese Cabbage.  I don't like this either.

IMG_5561.JPG

The 梅菜竹笋 is quite tasty.  Bamboo Shoots.  All the good food start to come out.

IMG_5562.JPG

Vege.  Look at those small carrots.  Very tasty too.

IMG_5565.jpg

Our roasted duck is finally here.

IMG_5567.JPG

The usual wrapper for the duck skin.  Yummy.  Look at the duck, it is very pretty, and we got 3 plates of it.  This is one of the three ways to eat.  Second method is to dip the duck meat into the sugar and eat.

IMG_5569.jpg

And this is the third way of eating the Peking Duck.  This 空心烧饼 is for you to wrap the vege and Peking Duck inside.  Look at the skin is so thin, and it is very crispy too.

IMG_5570.jpg

And after you wrap the duck, vege and the super tasty sauce, you put this in your mouth and guarantee you want soe more.

IMG_5572.jpg

The other famous dish and very tasty dish - Roasted Sea Cucumbers.  Top grade.

I think I ordered too much.

IMG_5573.JPG

Look at the food on the table for only 3 person...

IMG_5574.JPG

This is the bun that is hollow inside and very thin skin.  When you wrap the duck inside, taste very good.

IMG_5575.jpg

The clear duck soup.

IMG_5576.JPG

Guess who was here?  President Nathan.

IMG_5579.JPG

The roasted duck is roasted with the real wood fire...

IMG_5580.jpg

The restaurant located here...

Strongly recommend!!

Beijng Day#1 - 海底捞火锅

Date:  April 19, 2011

I was attending the Capacity China conference in Beijing.  The first day, my brother in law took me to this huge steam boat restaurant... 海底捞火锅

2009523154915.jpg

Apparently, there are many branches in Beijing.  The one we went to is near his apartment at 望京.

20090306030203838.jpg

It is a very big restaurant.  Yet it is vey pack.  So, when we arrived there, the waiters ask us to sit down, relax, play some chinese chess, eat some peanuts and 王老吉凉茶.  Amazing, there have a lot of waiting table, for you just sit down and play chinese chess, or jumping chess (跳棋).

IMG_5549.jpg

A typical steam boat restaurant that needs you to mix your own sauces.  Basically, I mixed everything I like...

IMG_5552.JPG

They even have halal sauces...

IMG_5550.jpg

Now, the soup based is very nice.  The spicy one not so spicy too, just nice.  But I heard it will become more spicier after boiling for some time.

IMG_5551.JPG

The service is very good.  They give you hot towels and keep changing the hot towels.  They also protect you cloths and dresses with apron, and covers.  They even give you a glasses cloth to wipe your glasses.  wow, that is what I call service.

IMG_5553.JPG

Something that you may not get in Singapore.  This is DUCK BLOOD (鸭血).  It looks awful, but once cook, it taste good.

IMG_5554.jpg

The thousands hair stomach (千毛肚)。  Very nice and chewy.

IMG_5555.jpg

Of course, the pig intestine (大肠).  Another chewy item.

IMG_5556.jpg

The beef (bottom) and the beef tongue (upper).  The beef tongue looks exactly like beef slice, but it is a tongue.

IMG_5557.jpg

Overall, the soup based is really tasty and nice, and the food was fantastic especially those exotic one.  I heard this store originated from Macau or Hong Kong.
