Taekwondo Poom Belt Chater 3 Chapter Assessment for Jay Jay

Date:  Aug 24, 2015

Yesterday was Jay’s Poom Belt Chapter Assessment grading for his chapter 3 patterns.

As usual, the very confident Jay Jay learned all these patterns on his own, and we have no ideal what he has been learning!

IMG 8662

The owner of J.H Kim Taekwondo School is a person who really knows how to do marketing and capture parents’ heart.

For the first time ever, the head master Rivas allowed the parents to witness how their kids took the poom belt chapter assessment.

There are 18 of them made it to the Chapter 3 assessment.  Seems like the number is dropping, that is why no wonder, he wants the parents to appreciate more what their children is learning and hopefully keep the child interests in learning Taekwondo more prolong.

IMG 8667

They sure do a lot a lot of warm up.  This includes those normal stretching exercises.

It also includes almost 10+ different kicking exercise.

Like what I say every time, I want Jay Jay to keep fit, and this Taekwondo lesson are one of the high fat burner exercise for him.

Hopefully in future, when he faced with bad guys, he knows how to kick like this.

I didn’t know he can jump so high.

IMG 8690

He actually jump high enough to create the good kicking power.  But I guess later, when he choose his punch to break the board instead of kicking shows he lacks a bit of confident in this kicking as well as the fear of feeling pain kicking the board.  HaHaHaHa...

This is the first test of the day.  Be able to perform chapter 3 poomsae (pattern).  8 months later, when he takes the 2nd Poom, he will need to know all the four chapters.

IMG 8705

No problem at all.

The next test is the sparring.  Three rounds.  Here is round 1.

It is kind of fun to look at these non-contact sparing.  Look at how Jay Jay quickly evade a kick and the return another kick to opponent.  Quite cool.

IMG 8761 IMG 8762 IMG 8763 IMG 8764

This is round 2.  A different opponent.

IMG 8776

Looks like they are hitting or kicking each other, but they aren’t.  Cool!

In fact, I had a lot of fun watching this.

IMG 8803

Third match.

Another high kick.

IMG 8853

Back Thrust.  But where is the oppnent? hahaha

IMG 8876

Third test.  To break the board.  oh.. no… break 2 boards.

And after competed all three assessment, they got a nice certificate to prove that they completed this stage.

After half an hour of hard work.  He finally got his certificate.

Well done Jay Jay.

Kay Kay Is Now Blue Tip

Date:  Aug 17, 2015

Early August, it is that time again.

IMG 7308

It is Taekwondo grading time.

IMG 7256

Every 3 months, Kay Kay followed his brother footsteps to take the Taekwondo grading.

IMG 7264

And then, he went thru the change belt ceremony.  Which he loves it.

IMG 8337

Some of the things that I think Taekwondo has changed my son, Kay Kay...

1.  Taekwondo will help him to keep fitter.

2.  Taekwondo will raise his self-defence awareness.

3.  Taekwondo will teach him to respect teachers, elders, uniforms, and even training equipment and facilities.

4.  Taekwondo will make him stronger.

5.  Taekwondo will teach him disciplines.

6.  Taekwondo pattern will remind him that he needs to remember patterns and take test.

7.  Taekwondo sparring will show him how to fight.

Followed by the sparring session.  Good work Kay Kay.

IMG 8350

Projected to get his poom belt (Black belt for kids) by end of next year.  Not too bad.

And I just paid the SG50 promotion for his taekwondo lessons.  Thousands plus for 50 lessons.  Very good deal.

Jay - Poom Belt Chapter 2 Grading

Date:  June 7, 2015

There is no way Daddy can keep up and show him youtube of the pattern.

He has learned all the patterns from the classes.

Today is his second chapter internal grading day.

IMG 4429

He has performed smooth pattern for both chapter 1 and 2.

And he has kick a lot of back thrust, side kicks during the sparring display.

And he has to strike 2 times to break this board.

IMG 4435

Of course they won’t fail a kid who takes 2 strikes to break the board. hahahaha

And at the end of the grading, he proudly came out with his broken board, poom belt renewed with a green Chapter 3 stickers.

IMG 4443

I just found out from another instructor that after he turned 15, he can go to the STF and convert his poom belt to black belt.  No need to take any more test, simply fill in paper, and pay money, you can get all the poom belt changed to black belt.

Kay Kay & His First Taekwondo Sparring Lesson

Date:  May 25, 2015

This is Kay Kay.  He still has about 3 months before turning into 6 years old.  And today is the first time ever he ever involve in a fight.

Today is his first Taekwondo Sparring lesson.

IMG 3036

It is nice to have him and his brother Jay Jay in the same sparring class.  His brother will show him how.

IMG 2955

The first half an hour is to make them sweat.

It’s so cute to see him wearing that bulky protection gears and do the kicking.  He loves the speed kicking.

IMG 2992

Speed kicking.

Kay Kay will learn the correct way to engage sparring in a fight.

IMG 3016

Alternate leg kicking.

His first ever back thrust.  They will learn it in the Green belt lesson.  But so far, he only attended two classes, and they have not teach him yet.

Sometimes there will be some injury in the sparring session.  The boy Jay Jay was sparring with not sure why hurt his right leg and went down.

So eventful.  I hope Kay Kay did not get scared by watching that happen.  hahaha

IMG 3033

Later, after the boy went down, Jay Jay sparring with another boy.

IMG 3029

OK.  Kay Kay is green belt, the only green belt in today class.

So, he is one of the youngest.  And first time sparring.

I told him to tell teacher that this is his very first lesson.

IMG 3039

He is sparring with a blue belt.  Same similar body size.  And you can tell he is having fun!

IMG 3061

Of course the blue belt being more experience kick more.  hahaha

Kay Kay also able to use both left and right legs too.  He sometimes also use a back thrust.

IMG 3078

This is Kay Kay 1st Sparring video.  It is so funny that for the first 20 seconds the blue belt boy kicking and he does not know what to do.  All he can do is to look at the teacher.  And the teacher then realise that he has not been to any sparring classes before.  This is his first class.  So, he taught him some kick patterns.  And then, he is fine then.

After the class, he said it was fun.  And he also say, some time the boy kick his hand and his hand is a bit pain.  That’s sparring, son!  hahaha

Kay Kay Promoted to Green Belt

Date:  May 19, 2015

Congratulations to my younger son Kay Kay and Justin being promoted to green belt this week!

IMG 2541

For the kids, it is important to learn Taekwondo.

1.  Get the first taste of “grading”.  So, when they go into P2, they will know what is “test”, “quiz” and “exam” all about.  It is about study something over and over again, trying to understand why we need to study, and then, every 3 months has a test or grading.  So, you need to work hard and practice so that “Practice makes perfect”.  This are a few little concepts that I injected into this TKD and tell both my sons.

2.  Learning how to defence yourself physically.  This is very important.  When you see bad guys, and they do something to you, you need to learn how to think and defence.

3.  Learn to respect others.  Respect the teacher.  Respect the head master.  Respect the training hall.

4.  Learn to control emotion.  Hurt in future will come in either physical form or non-physical form (i.e. cyber bully).  The key thing to learn at this age is, do not be so emotional about things.  Learn how to control it.  Angry will bring you to the dark side.  (have to learn together with Star Wars Force teaching).  Well, the idea is simple.  TKD is for fitness.  When got bully by someone else, you can defence yourself.  But if you use TKD to bully others, their legs will sure be broken by me.  And that is all they need to learn.  hahaha

IMG 2524

It might be tough for Kay initially to pick up TKD.  But since he every day see his brother do it, he also wanted to request for it.  And the first few months is quite hard to tune him into this grading mode.  But later he figure it all out.

IMG 2527

And we are very proud of both the kids.  Well done Kay Kay and Justin!

IMG 2532

Of course happy face.  hahaha

Here is the change belt ceremony.

IMG 9441

To his surprise, there is a board breaking element in the assessment test.  Luckily he has done a couple of it before.  And he managed to break the board.

IMG 9442

On the same day, he got the first chapter assessment certificates.

Well done Jay Jay.

Kay Kay & TKD Yellow Belt

Date:  Dec 8, 2014

Last month, Kay Kay was promoted to yellow belt.

On that day, he was picked to perform on stage.

IMG 2890

Well, it is not exactly performing.  Rather, they are having their class on the stage @ Millenia Walk.

JH Kim have a ultimate black belt challenge later.  So, they bring the kids up stage and have lessons there.

Well, not all kids are picked.  They did not pick Jay Jay.

So, Kay Kay was proud to be on stage.

IMG 2896

Doing warm out.  With a little bit help.

When Kay Kay is on stage, you can see that he is very well behave.

Punching.

DSC09717

Huh… Huh… Huh … Huh...

IMG 2902

He also kick very well when he is on stage.  Of course, there are some audiences there too.

Here he performed the front kick.

Not too bad for a 5 year old.

DSC09739

Here, he performed the side kick.

You can see that he put in efforts in every kick.

DSC09745

Punch and kick.

Side kick.

Lastly, the game.  It is like Indiana Jones.

Of course, they will learn their patterns there too.

IMG 2918

And lastly, teacher thank them for coming up stage.

IMG 2922

Sorry Kay Kay.  Daddy and mommy actually lost all the photos for this change belt ceremony.  We will get it from uncle Terrence.

I think the reason is we just change to iPhone6, and the backup are not done correctly and we might deleted some photos on that day.

:(  Wahahahahahaha

Don’t worry, your years yet to come.  Many more change belt ceremony to come.
