Kids Cooking

Date:  Jan 26, 2016

Children need to be given duties at home.  Even if you have a domestic helper, you should assign your child something to do or to help with.

Teach them how to make Ice Cream (without using the Ice Cream maker)

IMG 9534

Make their hands dirty.

IMG 9287

Their job can be as simple as taking a scissors and cut the home made macaroni.

IMG 9650

Instead of letting them watch TV or play games by themselves.

Make them do work.

Hey, see what Kay Kay has prepared for the playdate dinner.

IMG 9651 1

This is the great age to assign them to do things.  Even playdates can help out.

IMG 9693

Simple task like decorating the CNY decors.

This is a job for children.  Not a job for domestic helper.

IMG 9698\

Kids will be happy to decorating the house.

They feel a strong sense of ownership of our home.

The make the home looks lively.

IMG 9709

At the end of the day, lazy parents will clap their hands and say Thank You!

IMG 9716

During weekend.  It will be this fellow job to prepare breakfast.

See he just wake up.  His hair still standing.

IMG 9731

Don’t be afraid to make him fry eggs.

IMG 9733

It is the most easy task.  You know after he mastered this skill.  He can cook his lunch next time.  hahahaha

Cook rice, cook egg, put a bit of soya sauce, and that’s it.

Of course, thru out the time, he will learn more dishes.

IMG 9734

This is the Sunny Side Up he make for all of us.

IMG 9735

And then, he will set the table and call all of us to come and eat.

IMG 9738

Although it is simple meal.

But this meal is prepared by my son.

And he is only 10 years old.

IMG 9741

This week.  My Sunday breakfast.  Of course, Cucumber not cut by him.  He still need some time to handle knife.

IMG 9740 1

This was last week one.  With home grown cabbage.

IMG 9502

Three weeks ago.  He tries his first ever scramble egg.

IMG 8279

This is his very first attempt.  Which is 3 weeks ago too.

IMG 8263

Some times ago, he also prepare these.  We prepare and cut the beef for him he just cook with everything in it.  Watch the fire, and that’s it.

He felt so proud.

(The beef curry is a bit hard, I think control of fire not so accurate.  But still edible.  Next day, mommy cook another 1 hour to make the meet soft)

(Stif fry beef is nice)

(Tofu is simple)

IMG 8257

Don’t forget Monkey see Monkey do.

So, the young one also take parts in some activities.

IMG 9794

He make these cookies.  As you can see, not all cookie the same size.

IMG 9799

And yes, sometimes there are injury happen.

Like last week, Jay got oil burnt on his fingers.

But hey, that’s cooking.  So, what is cooking if you don’t burnt your hand some time.  hahahaha

this will only make the kids more careful next time handling cooking.

Maid Support

Date:  Jan 8, 2016

During the absence of our Domestic helper (Dec 22, 2015 until Jan 5, 2016), we have two maid support.  “Maid Support” I guess means the person who support the Domestic Helper.

They learned how to spin the mob and make sure the floor is clean.

 IMG 8231

Older kids can start learning how to wash dishes.

IMG 7760

So, they will be tasked to do rice dumplings “Tang Yuan”.

IMG 7636

Look at my BB-8 Tang Yuan.

IMG 7643

One day, we teach Jay Jay how to cook.  So, he cook the Japanese Curry (errr… the beef is quite hard), Stir fried beef capsicum (which is quite nice) and steam tofu.

IMG 8257

In the morning, Jay Jay will fried eggs for us.

IMG 8262

Not too bad.

IMG 8263

The second day, we have even better, improved breakfast.

IMG 8278

He tried cooking scramble eggs too.

IMG 8279

Jay Jay is 10 years old this year.  So, it is a good time for him to learn how to cook.

Of course the food are simple food.  All materials are pre-cut for him.  All he needs to do is to turn on the stove, heat it up, and stir fry or cook it.

It is a good start.

And the whole family enjoys his food.  Those that is not edible, we will slow cook it for another 1 hour for next day.

Of course, they will also task to prepare their washed cloths.  Sort it out and place it in the correct cupboard, and so on.

The two boys has grown up and happily accepted their tasks to help out.

And we survive that two weeks plus without domestic helper at home.  Cool!

Jay Jay Back In Action In Badminton

Date:  Sep 20, 2015

The kids has a lot of sport activities each week.  This is one of them where both brothers enjoy playing.

Screen Shot 2015 09 20 at 7 00 40 am

Jay Jay just recovered from a knee cut injury.  But seems like he has fully recovered.  This is his first training since resting 2 weeks for the injury.

Seems to me that he has finally learned how to get rid of his elbow problem when hitting the shuttlecock.  He uses to bend too much on his elbow.

But this week, I can see that he has improved a lot in this area.

Also, the foot work is starting to get better.

Can lar… next time can “xian char bo” using badminton.  :)

Foot work is important.  That is why I also please to see how Kay Kay practise his foot work.  Well done Kay!

I think he can become better than his brother Jay Jay in 1-2 years time.  hahahahaha  Good work Kay!

Badminton is a sport I like.  I think it is the only sport I like.

May be it is the gene, so, the two boys also likes to play badminton.

For Jay is for fitness.

For Kay is for fun!

Putting @ Home

Jan 26, 2015

This is the latest putting mat I bought for Jay Jay.

Screen Shot 2015 01 26 at 6 03 39 am

It is a fine carpet.  Gives you a green speed of 9-10.5.

Screen Shot 2015 01 26 at 6 03 57 am

It comes with 5 holes.  Each hole comes with a flag stick, a cup and a “star ball”.  The star ball suppose to stop the ball if the stroke is a bit hard.

Screen Shot 2015 01 26 at 6 06 38 am

The length is just nice.

IMG 7130

It’s big enough to have a 2-3 meter putt.

IMG 7138

Putting practice is important to the kids to build up their confident in hitting the putt.

IMG 7134

It is all about accuracy how you putt the ball into the hole.

IMG 7135

This is another putting mat I have bought a year ago.  This one is great too.  As there are lines on the mat to align your putter.

IMG 7137

Kay Kay was playing here for a couple of days and he now asked if he can join golf lesson?  Not yet, Kay Kay.  Wait until you are P1.

IMG 7225

Jay Jay is starting his next level golf lesson.  Every week, he is spending 2 hours on the golf course.  So, he needs to practice this to lower his score.

Usually we placed 5 balls and try to hit the balls into the yellow flag cup.

IMG 7227

The two brothers will compete with each other.

IMG 7228

After practicing for a few days, let’s put the practice into good work!

IMG 7285

So, he did very well on the course yesterday.

Played only 5 holes yesterday.  But boogie the last two hole.

Goli @ Home

Date:  Jan 25, 2015

I have this putting mat at home.

IMG 7130

It comes with some very shallow holes.  (about 1-2mm heights)

IMG 7135

I also got a few boxes of “Goli-es” (Marbles).

IMG 7254

Let’s play Goli!  (Marbles)

IMG 7229

You can set up all kinds of rules.

IMG 7242

We bought this from the Best Toy Shop.  It is a marble counting system.  You shoot the marbles from far, and landed on the hole with points marked on it.

IMG 7280

He shoot so many onto it.

IMG 7243

I have this golf putting cup.  So, all you do is to roll the goli up the slope, and it will automatically roll down to the hole.

IMG 7282

The shallow golf holes are not easy, ok!  If you roll it too hard, it will come out.

IMG 7247

Like that, the kids play goli for the whole night.  HaHaHaHa
