The very first thing you do is to goto JR travel place to change your ticket and design your trip. Get all the tickets done as now is the peak season.
It's very convenient to take train around. Basically just decide what you wand to do. It's free and easy. In our case, we take train, tour bus, back to train, everything is prepared.
By the way, there are Chinese speaking agent there too.
On JR train, you can always sit in the cozy area - canteen. Very nice...
