What to Do When You Burn Your Hand

Date:  Apr 5, 2012

[Updated:  Apr 10, 2012] There are two things that is very important forgot to mentioned.

1.  After you got burn, don't use Colgate, and if you cannot go and see doctor immediately, use a cup to put ICE WATER inside, and then soak your hand in there.  The key is to bring down the temperature.  You will find that if you take your hand out and the hand will have heaty heaty feelings.

2.  Even after you apply the cream, the hand still feel heaty.  That is because, the blood is still circulating.  So, at this stage, raise your hand up the heart level.  In this case, the blood will slow down, and the heart will not pump so much blood via the hand.  Then, it will slow down the swalon, and the heaty feeling.

--- End of updates ---

My wife was talking to her colleague.  I think must be a heated topic.  She was in the middle of taking some hot boiling water from the tap based office hot water boiler.  And the next minute, the boiling water (100 degrees) run over her hand.  OUCH.

So, she quickly put her hand under the running water and let the cold water run thru her hands for at least 5 minutes.  Then, quickly go and find ice to put ice on top of the burnt section.  Because she has a tele-conf to attend, only 2 hours later she went to see the doctor, because she "beh-tahan" the pain already.

The clinic near by has a long queue.  So, she has to run to 7-11 to ask if she can buy few pieces of ice.  Of course the 7-11 gave her the ice free.  She continue waiting for the doctor there.

Later, doctor told her, It was 2nd degree burnt.  And he gave her his most expensive cream of it, plus 3x pain killer, and 3x anti-hesimine pill.

We suppose to go to Vinyard @ Hort Park, as we promise the kids to bring them there.  So, we have to cancel that activity.

After a day rest....  The hand looks just as new.  No burnt scare.  The cream works great!

[Updates]  When she got burn, the middle three fingers the back and the palm is red in color.  Now I guess is fine already.  Magical!

So, remember, when you are burned by 100 degrees hot water, the first thing to do is to bring down the temperature.  Must run thru a lot of ice water.  Use ice to cool it down.  Don't use Colgate (toothpate).  The cooling chemical ingredient in Colgate is not enough to cool it down.  A lot of people thought use Colgate and that will do it.  So, must use a lot of ice instead.

Then, go see doctor, and usually doctor will have good cream to heal it.
